Students work on individual projects in oil and class instruction is tailored to specific requests as well as group demonstrations, presentations and resources showing various techniques such as alla prima or direct painting with glazes.

Sculpting The Hands: This course aims to familiarize you with their structure and form, enabling you to create more naturalistic and expressive renderings. Begin with building a simple wire armature, then apply clay for the underlying skeletal structure as well as the ligaments and muscles, then finally overlay clay for the skin. There will be a presentation of sculpted hands, and demonstrations as well as both group and individual instruction. Tuition includes all supplies. $155/$130. Sculpting A Low Relief workshop:
  Taking inspiration from the portrait reliefs of Saint-Gaudens, Verrochio, and other Renaissance masters, you will sculpt a bas (low) relief using a personal photo (recommended to be in profile view if a portrait) as your reference. You will learn techniques for creating the illusion of depth in a shallow space, and combine drawing and sculpting to create a shallow relief that can be wall-mounted after firing. Topics explored will include proper use of tools, properties of clay, preparation for firing, and finishing details. Sculpting The Portrait From Inside Out
Working first from a plaster skull, students will create a copy tin clay o understand the underlying bone and muscle structure, and then working from a live model to create the final portrait. Topics discussed will include anatomy, expression, physical properties of clay, how to prepare for firing, and finishing techniques. Cost includes model fee and supplies.
